1. Shampoo and Condition, condition, condition! (I shampoo my hair once every week but I condition at LEAST 3 times a week! Conditioning the hair prepares it for all the manipulation we use against our hair like heat and hair coloring. Deep conditioning is just as important- I do this once a week)
2. Oil Treatment (I like to do a hot oil treatment on my hair at least once a month using a 1 cup of warm extra virgin olive oil. I just dump it all over my head and leave it in for about 20 minutes covering it with a plastic bag, then rinse.)
3. Protein Treatment (If your hair is not getting enough protein or is breaking off or shedding alot, use a protein treatment! I sometimes experience breakage when I wear my hair out and it rubs against my sweater. Sometimes heavy winds can tend to break it off, just a little. So I use Aphogee Protein Treatment once a month to keep my hair from breaking. This stuff really works great and repairs the hair from breakage and after hair coloring. It also leaves my hair Soooo soft!)
4. Keep hair MOISTURIZED (Dry hair can cause breakage! I use Organics Olive Oil Moisturizer from Sally's and virgin coconut oil from Walmart to keep my hair from drying out. The coconut oil provides a nice sheen :)
5. Try nOt to use narrow toothed combs to detangle (Since our hair tangles easily we must use wide toothed combs to detangle. Narrow toothed combs can cause hair "rippage" and I would suggest using a plastic wide toothed comb. The wooden ones can cause you to accidentally snag and rip out your hair! I like to detangle my hair with a shower comb in the shower and then I further define my curls with a wide toothed Denman Brush that I got from Sally's.)
6. Detangle when wet! (If you detangle your hair when it's wet, you will have less frizz, but be careful because hair is most fragile when it's wet)
Okay.. so if you have curly hair and have YET to diffuse.. PLEASE START NOW lol.
Introducing: the Diffuser!
The diffuser is just an attachment that connects to your regular hair dryer. It looks like so:
I love the diffuser so much because it distributes the heat of the dryer throughout the hair without ruining the structure of the curl. It's not aggressive like other blow dryer attachments.
You can diffuse straight hair too for volume, but I like to use it on my curls the most. Here's a vid of how I diffuse my hair:
Hey! My name is Tiffany Marie and I am 21 years old. I am in college majoring in Dance Performance and Education and will graduate Fall of 2011. Dance is pretty much my life! Whenever I am not too wrapped up in school or work, I tend to spend a lot of time caring for my hair. I am currently on a natural hair journey to growing long healthy hair. I love fashion and makeup and spend spare time researching better brands and products for skin care and hair care. As it relates to personality, I would say I am very fun and pretty humorous. I love to make people laugh! This blog will kind of just be my internet diary :) Join me as I blog about hair care, skin care, fashion and just beauty in general!
