Natural Hair Care Tips for Curly Hair:

1. Shampoo and Condition, condition, condition!
(I shampoo my hair once every week but I condition at LEAST 3 times a week! Conditioning the hair prepares it for all the manipulation we use against our hair like heat and hair coloring. Deep conditioning is just as important- I do this once a week)

2. Oil Treatment
(I like to do a hot oil treatment on my hair at least once a month using a 1 cup of warm extra virgin olive oil. I just dump it all over my head and leave it in for about 20 minutes covering it with a plastic bag, then rinse.)

3. Protein Treatment
(If your hair is not getting enough protein or is breaking off or shedding alot, use a protein treatment! I sometimes experience breakage when I wear my hair out and it rubs against my sweater. Sometimes heavy winds can tend to break it off, just a little. So I use Aphogee Protein Treatment once a month to keep my hair from breaking. This stuff really works great and repairs the hair from breakage and after hair coloring. It also leaves my hair Soooo soft!)

4. Keep hair MOISTURIZED
(Dry hair can cause breakage! I use Organics Olive Oil Moisturizer from Sally's and virgin coconut oil from Walmart to keep my hair from drying out. The coconut oil provides a nice sheen :)

5. Try nOt to use narrow toothed combs to detangle
(Since our hair tangles easily we must use wide toothed combs to detangle. Narrow toothed combs can cause hair "rippage" and I would suggest using a plastic wide toothed comb. The wooden ones can cause you to accidentally snag and rip out your hair! I like to detangle my hair with a shower comb in the shower and then I further define my curls with a wide toothed Denman Brush that I got from Sally's.)

6. Detangle when wet!
(If you detangle your hair when it's wet, you will have less frizz, but be careful because hair is most fragile when it's wet)

The TRUTH about Jamaican Black Castor Oil!!

Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil is known to cleanse toxins from the scalp, nourish and thicken the hair, stimulate hair growth, moisturize dry brittle hair, repair split ends, and give hair body and bounce. I bought mine online at Jamaicanblackcastoroil.com for $8.99.

This stuff really works!

It has helped thicken my hair, especially near the ENDS. I used to have really bad see-through ends :( Thank God I found JBCO! Whenever I co-wash, I massage it into my scalp after I condition; I’m not sure if you are supposed to rinse it out or not, but I just leave it in there. No joke, this stuff is making my hair grow faster than it normally does. I’ve been using it for about 2 months, and I have so much new growth and fuller hair!

The only thing about JBCO is that is the consistency of it is very thick and it's kind of weird to really distribute through your hair. Secondly, it has a horrible smell to it! It smells like tobacco or cigarette smoke. My friend and I actually started using this product at the same time, but she stopped after her first week of trying it out lol. YES, that’s how serious the smell is. It’s that strong. I’ve pretty much learned to cope with the smell, and I mask it by putting Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner in my hair over top. The leave in has a really lovely smell; I pretty much can’t smell the JBCO in my hair anymore when I use this :)

I just spent 15 minutes on Google looking this up because After applying it I thought I smelled cigarette smoke and thought it was a target bag that I was using, so I threw it away. But the smell stayed with me everywhere I went I couldn’t figure it out. so I walked outside my house is nobody in my house to see if there was a neighbor outside smoking close by. I finally realized it was the oil I had applied to my eyebrows and eyelashes. Jamaican black castor oil. And when I look it up the process i of JBC vs regular castor oil is roasting vs cold pressing respectively. I suppose that is where the ashy smell comes from which makes me think of cigarettes and carcinogens. Gross! I will not be continuing as I can only imagine what it would smell like if I applied it to my scalp overnight.
